BIM, a blessing for AEC industry

Technology has made an advancement in replacing most of the manual jobs, even the ones of conventional engineering and design techniques. Ever since then the AEC sector has been quite curious about the use of BIM.  BIM is now almost mandatory in every continent across for all kinds of Construction Management.

The construction industry in countries like the Netherlands, Poland. Germany, Spain, UK with BIM is possible making a huge difference. Here are some reports which prove the implementation of BIM has been very fruitful.

The Decade of BIM

Many studies concluded that the international building information modelling (BIM) market will reach $11.7 billion by 2022, with a compound annual growth rate of 21.6% between 2016 and 2022.

A Research and Markets study found that the international building information modelling (BIM) market will reach $11.7 billion by 2022, with a compound annual growth rate of 21.6% between 2016 and 2022. The Asia-Pacific region will experience the most growth in demand due to its rising construction activity and the push of BIM mandates.

The highest growth would be seen in the Asia Pacific region which is the most growing region on the world map and leading to push to BIM. Increasing building technology and sustainable practices has brought the expectations of BIM to more efficient use as precise environmental data is expected to expand the realm of 4D, 5D and 6D BIM.

Netherlands: ~80% of architects in the Netherlands  use BIM for every scale of projects, which makes the country as the top user of BIM

UK: Another European country, the Uk stands next after the Netherlands as It aims to adapt BIM completely by 2025.

India : NITI Aayog (an Indian government authority) officials said BIM could save up to 20% of the project cost by reducing the construction time. The government is trying to emphasise BIM and make it a part of every project by the ministries. Nagpur Metro has also been the first project in India to adopt the 5D BIM technology & one of the very few in the world to have integrated 3D, 4D and 5D.

Here are some benefits of BIM making it as a main tool of the AEC Industry

1. BIM plays a crucial role in the lifecycle of a construction project.

2. Lesser Chances of errors on site as it can be rectified on an early stage.

3. Cost efficient as it reduces the manual workforce upto certain level.

4. User Friendly.

5. Cloud computing eases the data storage and retrieval.

6. Shorter Time frame.

7. Effective communication and collaboration.

8. Budget Friendly.
