The Nest is a 6,500 sq. ft. family home designed to be a sanctuary of warmth, creativity, and memories. Nestled in a gated community in Thaltej, Ahmedabad, this three-storeyed residence embodies the essence of a close-knit family and their shared love for art, nature, and each other. Conceptualized for Ekta and Dhruv and their daughters, Rianna and Zoya, the home reflects a journey of joy, effort, and personal expression, from its inception in February 2021 to its completion in December 2023.
The entrance foyer, a vibrant yet inviting space, sets the tone for the home. Adorned with personalized artwork by Ujjval Noya, a bone-inlay chest of drawers, and a bespoke totem by Harshita Jhamtani, the foyer is a curated blend of art and craftsmanship. Unique elements, such as the Roly Poly chairs by Driade and the patterned Kota flooring, add playful energy. The intricately CNC-milled entrance door with contemporary motifs, stained in dark walnut, lends the entrance its own voice.
Ascending to the upper floors, the staircase features a wooden handrail and fabricated balustrades illuminated by concealed lighting. An imaginative Tetris-like Kota skirting detail wraps around the steps, adding a quirky charm, especially near the second-flight opening overlooking the foyer.
The Galleria is anchored by a striking lenticular artwork by Prityanshi, showcasing an interplay of hills and beaches—perfect for the outdoors-loving family. Complemented by a colorful runner from Cocoon Rugs, the Galleria opens onto the pool and deck area. The pool design, inspired by Rianna’s earlier Koi Pond artwork, incorporates the family’s shared memories into the home’s heart, a fitting tribute to their bond.
The living and dining areas, along with the dry kitchen, form a seamless expanse designed for both intimate gatherings and lively celebrations. A concrete ceiling, polished Kota floors, and furniture in deep greens, greys, and blush tones create a sophisticated yet inviting ambiance. A custom-made dining table by The Klein Bottle, complete with intricate inlay details and a lazy Susan, serves as the centerpiece of the dining space. The dry kitchen is thoughtfully designed with blush conical lights and streamlined wiring for added elegance.
The powder bathroom is a monolithic marvel carved from fossilized marble. Featuring a stepped vanity that balances aesthetics and functionality, it serves as a hidden gem within the home.
The dayroom is a multifunctional space with a pool view on one side and a raised garden against the study window. It transitions effortlessly between Dhruv’s home office, the daughters’ study area, Ekta’s retreat, and an en-suite guest bedroom. Granite finishes ensure durability, while the cascading study table, which doubles as a window seat, adds a touch of practicality.
The first floor houses the master bedroom, daughters’ bedroom, guest room, and lounge. Each space reflects the family’s dynamic personality and aesthetic sensibilities. The daughters’ room is a celebration of creativity, featuring watercolor-inspired wallpaper, a pegboard for art display, and a birch wood study and loft area. The lounge, a constantly evolving space, boasts leather-finished Kadappa flooring, mint green cabinetry, and curated furniture, making it a standout area for relaxation and socializing.
The master bedroom is a tranquil retreat with a faceted pinewood ceiling and checkered Kota stone flooring. A sliding door with bespoke fabric art separates the sunlit nook, doubling as Dhruv’s office. The en-suite bathroom continues the home’s design language of subtle luxury.
The Nest is not bound by a singular architectural style or trend. Instead, it is a home defined by its individuality, thoughtful details, and the personality of its inhabitants. It stands as a testament to the seamless integration of design, art, and the intimate stories of a family.
