Nestled in an affluent neighborhood of Noida, Fusion of French Colonial ‘The Lawyerly Abode’ is a masterpiece of architectural design and cultural sophistication. Designed by Nishtha Duggal and Rohan Gera of The Concreate Story, this 15,000-square-foot residence is a harmonious blend of French colonial and Georgian aesthetics, reflecting the refined tastes of its senior-most resident, a distinguished lawyer. Spanning three floors, a basement, and a terrace, the home is a testament to timeless elegance, capturing the essence of the residents’ love for travel, art, and heritage.
The journey into The Lawyerly Abode begins on the ground floor, a space that pays homage to the charm and sophistication of old French colonial architecture. Here, the design is a seamless fusion of French country allure and colonial grandeur, resonating with the homeowners’ admiration for French culture and their extensive travels. Upon entering the drawing room, one’s attention is immediately captured by a stunning French tapestry, an exquisite artifact from the family’s travels, which stands as the room’s pièce de résistance. This centerpiece is surrounded by rich, dark teak and oak woods, infusing the space with a regal aura.
A bespoke black cabinet, crafted meticulously by the in-house team, boasts a shadowed polish effect, demonstrating impeccable craftsmanship and contributing to the overall aesthetic harmony of the room. The kitchen, far from being a mere functional space, serves as a cherished haven for the family. It seamlessly extends into a lush kitchen garden, which not only supplies fresh produce but also enhances the kitchen’s atmosphere, making it a beloved retreat for culinary adventures.
The master bedroom on this floor is designed to embody the royal yet understated aesthetic of French elegance. The room offers a serene sanctuary for relaxation, avoiding excessive ornamentation while still exuding a sense of luxury. Adjacent to this, the study, furnished with a classic Chesterfield sofa and adorned with Sabyasachi-inspired decor, doubles as a lounging area reminiscent of an old cigar room, adding to the home’s overall charm and sophistication.
Adding to the allure of the ground floor is a charming powder room, cleverly concealed within the lobby’s wall paneling, which surprises guests with its understated elegance. The lobby itself features an artificial skylight, which creates a transition from the bright, welcoming entryway to the softly lit, intimate ambiance of the drawing room. The guest room and kids’ room continue the theme of elegant practicality, ensuring comfort and adaptability for the family’s evolving needs.
Ascending to the first floor, one enters a realm defined by the grandeur of Georgian aesthetics. This floor maintains the European influence seen on the ground floor but expresses it through a distinct Georgian lens. Immaculate black and white polished floors reflect light with a mirror-like finish, adding a dramatic and sophisticated touch to the space. The introduction of rustic elements, carefully curated from the family’s travels, prevents the Georgian theme from feeling too static or formal in the vibrant Indian light.
The drawing room on this floor opens into an expansive study, which is bathed in natural light, creating a space that feels both dramatic and inviting. The study is furnished with rich dark teak and pieces from Stanley, offering a sophisticated workspace that is both rich in character and conducive to focus and productivity. The master bedroom on the first floor continues the theme of serene elegance, adorned with soft linens and earthy tones. This blend of French and English sensibilities creates a calming, luxurious environment that is perfect for rest and rejuvenation. The use of pastel colors and minimalistic wall treatments enhances the light, airy feel of the floor, making it a tranquil retreat within the home.
The second floor is a personal favorite of the design team and is envisioned as a distinct world unto itself. Visitors are greeted by high arches upon entry, which immediately create a sense of grandeur and anticipation. This floor features a staircase leading to a half-floor study and a terrace, both of which are bathed in natural light, reinforcing the timeless aesthetic of the home.
The drawing room on the second floor, defined by the arches, is a pastel blue haven. The interplay of soft English colors with abundant natural light creates a serene and inviting atmosphere. In contrast to the darker tones of the lower floors, this space favors a lighter palette, enhancing the sense of space and tranquility.
The half-floor study benefits from its unique positioning, receiving ample natural light, which makes it a bright and inspiring workspace. The black and white flooring, a classic nod to European design, is a recurring motif that ties the aesthetic of the home together. The terrace, accessible from the study, offers a private outdoor retreat, further elevating the floor’s appeal and providing a peaceful escape within the urban environment.
