The Eco-Floating Hotel: A Luxury Hotel That Floats By HAADS

Hayri Atak Architectural Design Studio has developed a concept for an eco-friendly Floating Hotel in Qatar, which is now the latest in a line of visually striking and cutting-edge proposals unveiled by HAADS.

This project adopted the motto of minimum energy loss and zero waste. The Eco-Floating Hotel, with a total of 152 rooms, was created as a five-star hotel and has an overall construction area of 35000 m². The hotel is characterized by its moving feature, and generates electrical energy by rotating around its position due to water currents.

The design of the eco-floating hotel is inspired by the sea with which it is associated in the first degree in terms of form and design principle. The structure will work efficiently in areas where there is a continuous and certain current. The sea that gives the structure physical and tangible power and receives the return it needs in a mutualistic form also directs the shape of the structure with the idea of the vortex.

The project, which is planned to take inspiration from the formation of the vortex, revolves around itself within the framework of controls in order to ensure the said electrical energy efficiency. This is accomplished by creating a permanent panorama of perspective.The DP system used on ships can be applied to this project so that the rotation can be fixed and the platform position maintained.A computer-controlled system called dynamic positioning can automatically maintain a ship’s position and direction using its own propellers and thrusters. 

The Floating Hotel, which has 3 different entrances and a 140-degree pier that surrounds itself, aims to provide access from land at any time of the day.

The element used in terms of green energy production is called vertical axis wind turbine and umbrella which, in terms of its function as a wind turbine, works on the vertical axis and on a coastal band.

Each Vawtau module can provide 25 kW of electrical energy. Vawtau uses wind currents caused by temperature differences between the sea and the land as its working principle.

The hotel’s top cover inspired by a vortex also collects rainwater as it spins. This approach to energy conservation is in keeping with the project’s design identity and it works effectively when processing the project’s landscape.

The water that will be obtained from here is to be used by the treatment plant as gray water, which will then be applied to green areas for purposes of maintaining the water balance.

The project aims to minimize intervention in the ecological balance by determined means, minimizing use of fossil fuels at any stage, for instance by using rainwater accumulation and vawtau modules as well as a rotational movement around itself.

The hotel has devised a plan to utilize gray water and purify seawater, which will produce reusable water. This will not harm the environment, as it will also treat organic waste. It is also planned to develop waste separation units in order to maintain efficiency and reuse food waste as fertilizer in the landscape for recycling substances such as food waste.

Three methods of access to the floating hotel will be provided. One will involve a 140-degree floating pier, another will employ boats from the sea, and visitors can also arrive by helicopter or drone to the helipad on the landing platform. 

The hotel’s platforms, including its connection to the mainland, are floating platforms. Since it is to be rented periodically, it will not need any additional requirements; instead it will obtain the Current needed and be able to move itself to the desired territory with no other requirements.However, the concept has been approved and completed.The concept works of the project have been completed and have passed approval.

Feasibility and technical studies are continuing in order to realize the construction phase. Although there is no exact date for the completion of these works, the construction deadline is estimated to be 2025.
