In Hyderabad’s buzzing financial district, Tabula Rasa 2.0 has emerged as a refreshing cultural oasis that redefines the city’s social and architectural rhythm. Designed by 23 Degrees Design Shift (23DDS), the restaurant stands apart from the glass-and-steel skyline, offering an immersive space where music, design, and materiality converge in harmony.

The client, a music enthusiast, envisioned a venue that would carry forward the spirit of the original Tabula Rasa while pushing creative boundaries. The architects responded with a design centered around a courtyard that serves as the heart of the 14,770-square-foot restaurant — a multi-sensory nucleus optimized for performances and interaction. Its meticulously calibrated proportions ensure ideal acoustics and visibility, delivering a captivating audio-visual experience.
The entrance unfolds as a deliberate transition — a gateway into expansiveness. The layout creates a fluid interplay between indoors and outdoors through slide-open glazing systems that erase boundaries between semi-open bar areas, enclosed lounges, and the open-air music courtyard. Patrons can seamlessly craft their own spatial journey through varied experiences of light, texture, and sound.

Tabula Rasa 2.0’s architectural language is one of balance and contrast. A segmented sloped roof appears to float effortlessly above solid walls, merging lightness and weight. The composite structure of concrete and steel ensures robustness, while the fibreglass roofing system over the courtyard adapts to changing weather and time of day. The signature jack arches framing the veranda introduce rhythm to the elevation, elegantly integrating functional spaces like restrooms into the larger narrative of design.
Lighting plays a transformative role — under-nosing illumination accentuates the built form, shifting the atmosphere from warm daylight to an intimate nocturnal glow. Surrounding greenery cools the microclimate and enhances comfort, reinforcing the venue’s environmental responsiveness.

Material selection reflects the project’s philosophy of timelessness and tactility. Walls finished in grey cement oxide plaster form a unifying, breathable canvas. The rough jet-black granite flooring contrasts beautifully with acacia wood furniture, while Lakha red granite in the courtyard brings warmth and vibrancy. Suspended woven wicker panels add a sculptural softness that plays off the rectilinear geometry — a visual metaphor for the balance between structure and soul.

True to its ethos, Tabula Rasa 2.0 integrates sustainable design details that merge function and responsibility. The sloped roof channels abundant daylight; louvered jute drapes shield interiors from glare; and cross-ventilation is achieved through operable glazing systems. An innovative air-cooling system powered by recycled kitchen RO plant water efficiently services most of the space. The use of minimally processed materials like rough granite not only adds raw beauty but also reduces maintenance and energy costs — exemplifying a holistic approach to sustainable luxury.
Beyond its physical form, Tabula Rasa 2.0 is a sensory narrative — a space that invites patrons to write their own stories. Its growing popularity and social media buzz underscore its resonance with Hyderabad’s dynamic youth and creative community. As dusk falls and melodies fill the courtyard, the space transforms into a living canvas of culture, design, and collective experience — a true reflection of Hyderabad’s evolving urban spirit.
