Nestled in the picturesque parish of Mundão, northeast of Viseu, a stunning residence designed by architect Paulo Pereira Teixeira embodies a perfect fusion of modern architecture and natural surroundings. The house is strategically positioned on a regular, longitudinal plot that ascends steeply from the entrance, providing breathtaking views and optimal solar orientation from west to east. This unique setting and thoughtful design create an intimate home that offers a tranquil refuge for its inhabitants.

The architectural design of the house is profoundly influenced by the steep slope of the land. The natural topography not only informs the building’s volumetric shape but also enhances the overall aesthetic and functionality. The house is intentionally oriented toward the east-facing garden, allowing all living spaces to seamlessly connect with outdoor areas that include a barbecue and a swimming pool. This harmonious relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces promotes a lifestyle that embraces leisure and relaxation.

A key feature of the house is its materiality, which balances solidity and coziness. The primary material, reinforced concrete, imparts an austere yet modern plasticity that ensures durability over time. The use of natural wood slats, both inside and outside the structure, creates an inviting atmosphere that integrates beautifully with the surrounding landscape. This blend of materials not only enhances the home’s visual appeal but also contributes to its longevity, ensuring it remains a timeless masterpiece.

The thoughtful design incorporates ample glazing, including large windows, a patio, and skylights that allow natural light to penetrate the interiors. As the day progresses and seasons change, the shifting light creates a dynamic atmosphere within the home. This interplay of light and space fosters tranquility and offers a family refuge, making every moment spent indoors feel unique and serene.

The interior layout of the house is meticulously planned, featuring distinct zones that cater to different functions across two levels. On the ground floor, the social and service areas include a garage and laundry room conveniently located and easily accessible, a service bathroom, an open living space comprising a kitchen, dining room, and living room that promotes social interaction and family gatherings, and an office designed for work or study. The design integrates an exterior patio facing the entrance hall, inviting natural light and air into the home.

On the first floor, privacy takes precedence, featuring a cozy living/reading area, bedrooms equipped with private bathrooms for added comfort, and a luxurious master suite that includes a walk-in closet and direct access to an east-facing balcony overlooking the pool. This spatial arrangement not only enhances the functionality of the house but also ensures that every bedroom enjoys views of the lush garden and swimming pool.

Its unique topography, strategic orientation, and thoughtful material choices create a tranquil environment that promotes a balanced lifestyle. With a functional layout and a design that embraces natural light, this residence stands as a testament to contemporary architectural excellence, offering a serene sanctuary for its inhabitants.
