Foster+Partners- Designed High-Powered LED Lamp Launched at Milano Design Week

Foster+Partners in collaboration with Italian lighting manufacturer Artemide has designed a high-powered LED Lamp- IXA which was launched at the Milano Design Week 2022. The lamps are inspired by Alexander Calder’s sculptures; minimal, classic, and versatile with the idea of ‘elegant balance’ in mind.

Foster+Partners’ design philosophy is set along the lines of sustainable architecture, urbanism, engineering, and design. An ecologically conscious approach is at the heart of all their projects. This one however is an amalgamation of both sustainable design and clever engineering.

The IXA’s dynamic design consists of a linear stem and a spherical metal head that is flexible up to 360 degrees. The lamps are available in 3 configurations to be used on the floor, wall, and table. While the floor lamp and table lamps are affixed with a metal swing arm with a spherical weight for counterbalance, the wall lamp is a simple metal arm ending with the lamp head.

The flexible design of the IXA also allows it to be set up with decorative, focused, or ambient lighting. It is available in four colours: charcoal, crane, slip, and ink. While the first collection produced a 100mm opaque spherical head the following collection is said to have a larger translucent sphere for more varied lighting configurations.

The collection marks the fourth collaboration between the two parties and is functional and sustainable; qualities for which both Foster+ Partners and Artemide are known.
