Designing New Age Spaces for Consumers In 2022 And Beyond

Homeowners today are better at optimizing the use of traditional spaces, and a lot of this is because of a change in lifestyle patterns that are shaped by both digital adoption and a sort of experimentation in design, thanks to the influence of social media.

Architects, engineers, and other structural industry experts have started to explore imaginative approaches to better-designed spaces for the meticulous and innovation-dominated culture. With a new perspective on what the ideal ‘dream home’ is, industry experts are more eager to push developments and be aligned to current trends. Home buyers today are better aware and more driven when it comes to the conscious mindset in design. They do not want to be seen as someone who is ‘wasteful’ but rather be seen as ‘energy – efficient’, ‘eco-friendly’, ‘digitally safe’ and more.

With changing environment and more active conversations taking place around conservation and sustainability practices, consumers want to build a home that is more- green.  Consumers today are surrounded by information whether it is through peers or through social media, and that awareness encourages them to incorporate sustainability into their daily life.

Architects and interior designers have been witnessing this change and hence are more attuned towards conscious designing. It’s not just about energy usage and having sustainable elements at home. A lot of awareness can be bought in by architects and interior designers as experts who can help their clients understand what kind of elements work best while trying to think more ‘sustainable’ for example, the Godrej mechanical locks have a trivalent chrome plating that is eco-friendly with no use of hazardous chemicals

On the other hand, consumers are also more conscious about designing homes that are more digital friendly. This is where the ‘smart homes’ concept come in i.e. – incorporating modern elements of technology

Employees who are confined to their houses owing to the work from the home era are exploring homes with cutting-edge technology for greater convenience and a better work-from-home experience. The smart home revolution was sparked by smart solutions, and the COVID pandemic has further fuelled it. This drastic shift in lifestyle has made smart solutions that are energy-efficient, tech-enabled, digitally safe, long-lasting, and designed with a simple user interface essential. While there is no doubt that the architecture and construction markets are gearing up to meet all these needs, as well as keeping in mind a versatile design approach, high-end home safety equipment is something that consumers are still falling behind on. Hence, in this case, consumers may want to be advised to invest in smart locks for doors, that they can access from their devices and helps them feel safer and also consider their convenience.

At the end of the day consumer needs keep evolving and design experts and architects play a strong advisory role for their clientele to help them incorporate elements basis their needs. Home safety needs to be thought of as a comprehensive solution at the drawing board itself and not as an after thought.
