In the heart of Ahmedabad, where tradition and modernity intersect, lies a luxurious 2000 sq. ft., 4 BHK apartment designed for a multigenerational family by Devanshi Doshi and Shivam Vaidya of Studio Deshi. Titled “Whispers of Elegance,” this residence combines distinct generational aesthetics within a minimalist framework, creating a harmonious environment that celebrates both individuality and unity.
The core vision for “Whispers of Elegance” was to achieve an ambiance of premium living that reflects the varied tastes and lifestyles of each family member. Integrating these preferences presented a design challenge—to unify the unique personalities into a cohesive space. The design team accomplished this by using a soothing neutral color palette, warm teak wood tones, and gleaming brass accents. These elements work together to create a seamless backdrop, highlighting individual tastes while preserving an elegant narrative of familial harmony.
The apartment’s layout is anchored by a long, linear central space that divides into two living areas and a dining space, seamlessly connecting with the kitchen. This open flow design enables adaptability, supporting both intimate family gatherings and large social events. A custom brass screen delicately separates the formal living and dining areas, allowing for openness and connectivity without compromising the space’s elegance. Central to this layout is a beautifully crafted dining table, serving as the home’s heart. Above it, a custom-designed brass mesh chandelier acts as a focal point, casting a luxurious ambiance throughout.
The kitchen embodies flexibility, featuring a unique moving wall that connects it to the living and dining spaces through a compact breakfast counter. This moving wall cleverly transforms into custom panelling when closed, visually uniting the kitchen, dining, and living areas with a teak wood ceiling. This adaptability preserves the visual flow, maintaining harmony whether the kitchen is open or secluded.
One of the home’s standout features is the inclusion of five golden circles, subtly etched with graphics representing the family members’ zodiac signs. This personalized touch adds meaning and a sense of belonging to the home. The mandir, positioned at the end of a passage, offers a peaceful retreat for daily rituals, enhancing the family’s spiritual connection. Like the diverse zodiac signs, each design choice in the apartment showcases individual character while uniting in collective harmony.
Each bedroom is a sanctuary reflecting the occupants’ personalities while adhering to the overall design language. The parents’ room, with soft sage greens and teak wood accents, is an oasis of relaxation. Traditional miniature artwork nods to the family’s heritage, infusing the space with cultural richness. A cozy reading nook serves as a retreat, ideal for evening tea and quiet reflection.
The daughter’s bedroom exudes Indian contemporary aesthetics with a playful Bohemian flair. Cane and teak wood bring a unique texture, while peach tones and curved design elements lend a feminine softness. This room is a creative haven, radiating warmth and originality, capturing the daughter’s style and preferences.
The son’s room takes a bold, minimalistic approach, creating a striking contrast with dark Prussian blue veneer against lighter wall panelling. This juxtaposition encapsulates the harmonious duality of contrasting personalities, blending boldness with elegance to create a deeply personal space.
“Whispers of Elegance” embodies the spirit of modern Indian familial bonds. With a seamless blend of functionality and luxury, this home is a testament to the family’s cherished individuality and togetherness. Devanshi Doshi and Shivam Vaidya of Studio Deshi have crafted an environment where every corner tells a story—a celebration of family values and refined taste that resonates in each thoughtfully designed space.
